What are the bibs for? So they're not naked?

In Bali they put a cloth round the small garden temples, because they / the gods inside are people and people should be dressed.

Think they were Hindu, but possibly mixed with Buddhist / animist spirits...

These Buddhas are a representation of Jizo, the protector of children, unborn, aborted and miscarried babies, as well as souls in hell, those caught in the cycles of reincarnation, firemen and travelers.

The bibs and hats are left by parents of children who have either survived an illness or unborn babies who have died. Local traditions suggest babies that die prematurely are sent to the river of souls, in purgatory, for the suffering they have caused their parents. The clothing is to encourage Jizo to protect the babies' spirits.
